Terrestrial Ecotoxicology
Terrestrial non-target organisms including above and below ground invertebrates, birds and small mammals, can potentially be exposed to chemicals from a range of uses as plant protection products, biocides, veterinary and human pharmaceuticals. Whilst more difficult to determine, exposure to general chemicals (those without biocidal properties) can occur. Faced with increasingly complex exposure and risk scenarios, CEA has the tools and the experience to provide both commercial clients and government agencies with higher-tier solutions.
Key Skills:
-
Characterisation of exposure and risk
-
Use of novel approaches in the development of risk reduction strategies
-
Data interrogation, analysis and re-interpretation
-
Preparation of regulatory summaries and overviews
-
GLP compliant non-target arthropod and insect residue field trials
-
Landscape scale population/community monitoring
Recent Studies:
-
WEBFRAM - improved realism in exposure estimates for in-field and off-field non-target arthropods (funded by UK Pesticides Safety Directorate)
-
Design and execution of arthropod residues study to support avian risk assessment under Plant Protection Products Directive 91/414/EEC (commercial client)
-
Ecotoxicology support for biocides submissions under the Biocidal Products Directive 98/8/EC (commercial clients)
