Product Stewardship
Chemical compounds such as pesticides, biocides, veterinary medicines, human pharmaceuticals and general chemicals are released directly or indirectly into the environment. They are increasingly coming under greater scrutiny at the National and European level, which is driven by legislation including the Water Framework Directive and The Groundwater Directive, and also EU policy strategies such as the Thematic Strategy on the Sustainable Use of Pesticides. The stated aims of the legislation and Directives are to minimise the environmental impact of the products concerned, and deliver a reduction in overall use of chemicals. To support these aims there has been a significant increase in surveillance monitoring by Environment Agencies across Europe.
CEA experts have a detailed understanding of current and intended Environmental legislation, and the operation of National stewardship programmes such as the Voluntary Initiative for pesticides in the UK. We can design strategies for supporting individual products in order to address EU and Member State environmental concerns.
Recent Studies:
-
European Glyphosate Environmental Information Source (EGEIS ) supporting the registration of glyphosate through Europe wide stewardship - on behalf of an industry consortium
-
Determining concentrations of an insecticide on insects in UK orchards to address potential risk to insectivorous birds - with the aim of refining avian exposure and risk - on behalf of a European pesticide manufacturer
-
Characterising influences on chemical exposure to surface water, and developing potential mitigation strategies - on behalf of a European chemical manufacturer
